Simple Terms, No Tricks. Markist is a local-first app with no accounts, no servers, and no data collection. These terms exist because app stores require them.

1. Acceptance

By using Markist, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

2. The App

Markist is a tracking app that stores your data as plain markdown files on your device. You own all data you create. We don't own anything you track.

3. Your Data

You own all content you create in Markist
Your data is stored as plain markdown files
You can export or delete your data at any time
You can read your files without the app

4. Optional iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud sync:

Your data syncs to your iCloud account
Your iCloud account is governed by Apple's terms
We cannot access your synced data
End-to-end encryption means only your devices can read your data

5. What You Agree To

When you use Markist, you agree to:

Use the app lawfully
Not attempt to reverse engineer or modify the app
Not use the app to harm others or violate their rights
Take responsibility for your own data (backups, etc.)
Be the sole owner of content you track (or have permission to track it)

6. Limitation of Liability

Important: Markist is provided "as is." We don't guarantee the app will be error-free or uninterrupted. Use at your own risk.

We are not liable for:

Data loss (we recommend regular backups)
App malfunctions or downtime
Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Issues arising from iCloud (governed by Apple's terms)

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures:

Data stored in iOS sandbox protected by iOS Data Protection
Atomic file writes to prevent corruption
Input validation to prevent malformed data

However, no system is 100% secure. Use best practices (backups, device passcode, etc.).

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms occasionally. Continued use of the app means you accept any changes. We'll update the "Effective" date at the top when we make changes.

9. Termination

You can stop using Markist anytime. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. If you used iCloud sync, your data remains in iCloud until you delete it.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of your jurisdiction. We hope that's not relevant, but that's the standard clause.
